Refreshment

I sit in the quietness and peace of God’s beautiful outdoors, listening to the rustling of the wind playing through the trees. I need this time away from the nitty-gritty of the “everyday”…time to slow down and relax…time to view life’s happenings in a different light…time to gain new perspective on the difficulties that have come my way.

This once-a-year vacation weekend allows God to speak new truths to my  spirit and deepen the truths already within me. I gain new insights on what’s important–and not important. I rest in the fact that my loving God cares about me and desires an intimate relationship with me. And I’m challenged by the words from Hannah Whithall Smith’s devotional book, God Is Enough: “We must take our hands off ourselves and off our affairs of every kind, and then leave them all in perfect trust to the Lord to manage…Who would want to keep anything in [their] own care, when [they] have the privilege of putting it in God’s care?”

How I long to remember to apply those words when I get back to the “everyday.”
