#From Glory to Glory

(from Streams of Living Water for a Thirsty Soul)

“Moses said, ‘Show me your glory, I pray.’”  Exodus 33:18 (NRSV)

When Moses asked God to see God’s glory, God told him He could not show Moses His face. John 1:14-18 says no one has ever seen God; He is made known by His Son, Jesus, and we see the glory of God in the glory of Jesus.  Furthermore, in 2 Corinthians 3:18 we find we’re reflections of the glory of the Lord and we’re being changed into His likeness from glory to glory by the Holy Spirit.

In the marginal notes of one Bible, it says “from glory to glory” denotes character change. That means the Holy Spirit is doing a work in our character to change us into the likeness of God. Although that work is being done in us now, we won’t have God’s perfect likeness until we get to Heaven.

When we’re in the wilderness, we sometimes feel it will take a long time for the Holy Spirit to “change us from glory to glory into God’s likeness.” We feel we’re slow learners. We learn a spiritual lesson, then find we have to learn it all over again later. But it gives us hope to know we’re not expected to learn everything all at once.  We’re changed by degrees (from glory to glory). And perhaps it’s not that we have to learn the exact same lesson over, but another aspect or a deeper truth. God knows exactly what is needed in our spiritual development and we can trust Him to bring that about.

PRAYER: Thank You, God, that when we open our lives to the Holy Spirit, He makes the necessary character changes to bring us into Your glory.
