#Facts–Not Feelings

(from Streams of Living Water for a Thirsty  Soul)

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5

When we let our low feelings determine our thinking, the resulting negative thoughts are indeed imaginations. These imaginations are not the knowledge (facts) that God gives in His Word. What are some of our imaginations in light of God’s facts?

Imagination: God doesn’t care about me. Facts: We are important and precious to God. We are “the apple of his eye” (Zechariah 2:8). God chose us to be His special people (1 Peter 2:9)

Imagination: I messed up and I’m no good. Why keep trying? Facts: If we confess our sins, God will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1John 1:9). We can begin again with a clean slate.

Imagination: I’ll never get out of the wilderness. Facts: The Lord restores our souls and leads us in right paths. He is with us and comforts us in our darkest valleys (Psalm 23:3-4). God is our God forever and ever and will be our guide even unto death (Psalm 48:14).

We need to cast down (replace) our negative thoughts (imaginations) with the facts of God’s Word — facts that are true and always dependable. God wants us to surrender our negative thoughts in obedience to  Him.

PRAYER: Help me, God, to dwell on facts instead of feelings. Help me to replace my imaginations with the truth of Your Word.
