#Where Is God?

(from Streams of Living Water for a Thirsty Soul)

“…Lord, [you hid your face], and I was troubled. I cried to [you] O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication.”  Psalm 30:7-8

The Psalmist went through wilderness experiences in which he felt that God was hiding His face from him (see also Psalm 10:1 and chapter 13).

When we’re in the emotional wilderness, often we too, feel that God is hiding His face from us. When we pray, our prayers seem to go no higher than the ceiling, and sometimes we’re tempted to quit praying altogether.

There is, however, a more helpful way to respond when wilderness times come and God seems to be hiding His face. We can start by telling God, “I don’t sense Your presence and my prayers seem to be going nowhere, but I’m going to talk to You anyway.” Then we can proceed to talk to God as though He were right with us and to tell Him whatever is on our minds. And it really helps!

We don’t have to feel God’s presence in order to talk to Him. He promises in Hebrews 13:5 that He will never leave or forsake us. He is with us, whether or not we feel His presence.

PRAYER: God, in my wilderness times when I can’t sense Your presence, help me to accept by faith that you are with me. And help me to keep talking to you.
