#Is God Enough?

(from Streams of Living Water for a Thirsty Soul)

“to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether of not you would keep his commands.” (Deuteronomy 8:2, NIV)

God said that He led the Children of Israel in the wilderness for 40 years to see what was in their hearts and whether or not they would obey Him.

What do the hard times–the wilderness experiences–in our lives mean? Could it be that God allows them in order to see if we will continue to follow Him? To see if He is enough in our lives? When it seems that all of life is out of control, when all our “props” are removed, what do we have left? Do we still trust in God and cling to Him?

The writer of Habakkuk 3:17-18 implies that although all “props” would be taken away and everything seemingly out of control, yet he would rejoice in the Lord and joy in the God of his salvation. He declared that the Lord God would be his strength and that God “will make my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights” (v.19).

Do we find God enough in our hard situations? Or do we rebel against Him when we face a challenge, as the Children of Israel did (Numbers 14:1-10)? When the going gets tough, do we disregard God’s Word and do things our own way as Moses did at Maribah (Numbers 20:7-12)?

God wants us to find Him enough in all of life.

PRAYER: Oh God, help me to see You as being enough in my life when everything seems wrong and out of control.
